The relief provides a fascinating insight into the lives of wealthy Roman women and the role of servants in their households.<\/p>\n

This high level of fitness and ability was unmatched by any other army at the time and helped the Roman Army to be successful in battle.<\/p>\n

Longevity has increased steadily through history. Life expectancy at birth was a brief 25 years during the Roman Empire, it reached 33 years by the Middle Ages and raised up to 55 years in the early 1900s. The main reason for the increase in lifespan is improved sanitation and medical care. Through the centuries, people have become better at keeping themselves and their environment clean, which has prevented the spread of disease. In addition, advances in medicine have allowed people to better treat and manage diseases.<\/p>\n

Less-wealthy people had similar beds made from wood, with wool strings holding up the mattress. The wealthy citizens of ancient Rome had much better sleeping arrangements than the less-wealthy people.
