Buildings in ancient Rome were primarily made of stone or brick, and covered with plaster or stucco. The Roman architect Vitruvius wrote that the best concrete should be made with red Volcanic ash from the region around Mount Vesuvius, as it was the most resistant to weathering.<\/p>\n

Most of the buildings constructed during Ancient Rome used brick and concrete. The materials were readily available and could be easily transported to the site.
