If you were to take a walk through the streets of ancient Rome, you would be able to see a great variety of people. Men, women, and children of all ages and sizes could be found going about their daily lives. While the average height of people today is taller than it was in ancient Rome, the ancient Romans were by no means a short people. The average height for a man was around 5’8” and the average height for a woman was around 5’2”. This is only an average though and there were certainly people who were taller and shorter than this.

There is no one answer to this question as people’s height varied in ancient Rome, just as it does now. However, the average height for men in ancient Rome is thought to have been around 5 feet 7 inches, while the average height for women was around 5 feet 2 inches.

What was the average height of a Roman man?

The average height of a male Roman was between 5’4″ and 5’7″, according to various sources. One source reported that the average male in the military was 5’6″. Another source said 5’7″. They were most likely very strong for their heights; eg, marching long distances with heavy armor and supplies.

I agree with Killgrove that the estimate for average female height might be a bit off. Roman women were probably closer to 5 feet 2 inches tall on average, and size 10 is quite large for that stature.
