Unlike today, the ancient Romans did not have a concept of privacy. The wealthy had slaves to perform all the domestic tasks, so the homes of the rich were open to visitors at all times. The poor lived in small homes with only one or two rooms. Families slept together on straw mattresses.<\/p>\n

hygiene was not a priority for most people and public baths were not common. Most people washed in a basin of water and then used a communal towel to dry off.<\/p>\n

The ancient Romans were a religious people and believed in many gods and goddesses. They believed that these gods and goddesses controlled everything in their lives.<\/p>\n

The Roman day was divided into two parts, the morning and the afternoon. The morning was devoted to business and the afternoon was devoted to leisure. The evening was spent with family and friends, typically at a banquet.<\/p>\n
