The ancient Romans were a very stylish people. They wore clothing that was both practical and attractive. Roman men and women both wore tunics. Tunics were simple, sleeveless shirts that went down to the knees. They could be made of a variety of materials, including wool, linen, and even silk. Roman men also wore a toga. This was a long piece of cloth that was draped over the shoulder. It was usually made of wool. Roman women did not wear the toga, but they did wear a long, flowing garment called a stola. Roman clothing was usually very colorful and elaborate.

The ancient Romans wore togas, which were made of a single piece of cloth that was draped around the body and fastened at the shoulder.

What did everyday Romans wear?

Most Romans would have owned at least one woolen cloak, which would have been their main piece of clothing. Cloaks were made of a rectangle of cloth, with a hole in the middle for the head. They were usually fastened at the neck with a brooch or pin.

Tunics were the next layer of clothing, and were made from a lighter weight fabric than cloaks. They were sleeveless or had short sleeves, and reached down to the knee or mid-calf. Men and women both wore tunics, although women’s tunics were often dyed a bright color or decorated with embroidery.
