The ancient Romans lived in a number of different types of dwellings, the most common of which were called insulae. These were large, multi-story apartment buildings that were often overcrowded and had little in the way of amenities. There were also a number of single-family homes, but these were generally only available to the very wealthy. The ancient Romans also made use of a number of public buildings, such as baths and temples, which served as both places of worship and social gathering places.<\/p>\n
